Congratulations to the Village of Northbrook’s Public Works Department for its leadership at the recent 2018 American Public Works Association’s Chicago Metro Expo and Conference. Maintenance workers Dan Cook (2nd place) and Bill Brey (finished in top half) participated in competitions and Kirk Ruesch served as a judge. Assistant Public Works Director Matt Morrison participated on a panel on construction demolition debris.

To raise funds for its Charitable Foundation, Rotary Club of Northbrook will hold the 16th annual Rubber Ducky Race on Tuesday, July 10, 7:00 p.m. at Village Green Park. An individual “duck” is $10 donation, or $25 for a “quack pack” of three or $100 for a flock of 15 for a chance to win $2,000 in cash and other prizes. Congratulations to Congregation Beth Shalom, recently recognized by the Village of Northbrook on the culmination of its 50th anniversary celebration. The Congregation has grown to over 1,150 members since it was first formed with 17 founding families and is considered one of the most respected congregations in the country.

In honor of its 50th anniversary, Red’s Garden Center will hold three days of special sales Friday through Sunday, July 13 – 15. A special celebration is planned for Saturday, July 14, noon to 3:00 p.m. with activities, refreshments and entertainment.

Congratulations to Chip Miceli, Des Plaines Office Equipment, who was recently featured in the May 2018 magazine ENX on its annual “Difference Maker” list, featuring 60 dealers from across the US who were selected for the honor. In addition, DPOE has been named for the last ten years as an Elite Dealer by ENX.

Congratulations to Justin Breen, Founder/CEO of BrEpic Communications for receiving a Silver Trumpet award from the Publicity Club of Chicago at the 59th annual Golden Trumpet awards competition. Breen received the award in the Media Relations category for a media campaign promoting Chicago Academy for the Arts, a private high school in Chicago.

Help support the Heartland Animal Shelter by participating in the “Walk of Love” on Saturday, July 21, 9:30 a.m. at Blue Star Memorial Forest Preserve in Glenview. Dogs are welcome to accompany their owners on the leisurely 2k walk. Cost is $30 in advance/$35 at the event; Register online for ways to support the shelter at www.heartlandanimalshelter.net.

Congratulations to Robert Dillon, Molly Maid, for receiving the “Making A Difference” award from the national organization’s foundation, which strives to increase public awareness of domestic violence and provides assistance to local shelters and agencies. Dillon and partner Tom Blank have raised over $23,000 for local shelter A Safe Place.

On July 24, the North Suburban YMCA will welcome the Journey of Hope cross country bike team, who ride coast-to-coast in support of individuals with disabilities. Their visit will include a screening of the documentary Swim Team, and comments from the Y’s Special Olympics Swim Team. Call (847)272-7250 for more information.

AmpliVox was recently named a finalist in two categories for the 2018 North American Office Product Awards. Its Wireless Classroom Audio System was nominated for Innovation of the Year, and its ADA-Compliant Sit to Stand Lectern was nominated for a People’s Choice Award. Awards will be announced on August 21.
