Leadership Northbrook Applications Open

Leadership Northbrook Applications Open

The Chamber is now accepting applications for Leadership Northbrook 2022/23.  This monthly program promotes civic engagement by introducing participants to Northbrook’s most vital public and private institutions.

For over 30 years, Leadership Northbrook has provided an educational foundation for individuals interested in community involvement.  A diverse class of participants, including residents, business owners, and public employees, meet at a variety of locations once a month September through April. Site visits include behind-the-scenes tours of some of Northbrook’s major businesses reflecting the range of industries in the village, as well as public facilities like Village Hall, the Police and Fire Stations, Glenbrook Hospital, Glenbrook North High School, and the Northbrook Public Library, as well as major businesses reflecting the range of industries in the village. At each destination, site directors and owners offer insight into the connections between their institutions and the larger village community.

The 2021/22 Leadership program included site visits to Bell Flavors & Fragrances, Inc., Glenbrook North High School, and the Northbrook Police Station.

Program participants from the past year gave Leadership Northbrook high marks for the variety, depth, and interest of the class. “I was able to immerse myself and really get to know the ins and outs of the Northbrook community,” noted Amy Kahhat, First Bank of Highland Park and Chamber Board Member. “Each month I had the opportunity to visit a significant business or Village office where I learned more about the positive contributions that each make. I met many leaders within the community and witnessed the impact that they and their employees have.”

David Telisman, owner of David Telisman Communications, described last year’s class as “an incredible program that exceeded my expectations” while Northbrook resident and volunteer Cheryl Singer characterized it as “beneficial, insightful and fun!”  Police Chief Christopher Kennedy noted the value of the program for public employees: “This is a terrific way for Village employees to learn Village history and to become a part of the community.”
