The American Cancer Society will hold a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of the North Shore kickoff event on Thursday, August 4, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Skokie Hospital. 139The Northbrook Public Library recently announced the addition of Brodie Austin as the new Assistant Director. Previously Austin was the Virtual Community Engagement manager at the Skokie Public Library. He received his MA in English from both Northwestern and the University of Colorado, and also has an MS in library and information science from the University of Illinois. He also has extensive experience in web design and development.

Youth Services of Glenview Northbrook will hold its annual Rummage Sale on Friday, August 19, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 20, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will help support community programs for children and families.

Glenview State Bank will hold a free shredding day on Saturday, August 20, 9 a.m. to noon at the bank’s Chestnut branch in Glenview. Up to 25 pounds of paper documents in paper bags in returnable containers, can be dropped off to be shredded. Drive-through service will be provided.

Congratulations to Matt Yan, 22nd Century Media who received third place in Best Investigative or In-Depth Story for his article “State: Northbrook still lacking in affordable housing” published on August 13, 2015. He received the award along with winners from 9 other 22nd Century publications from the National Newspaper Association’s 2016 Better Newspaper Editorial contest.
