Drive-Thru Starbucks Gets Green Light from Trustees

Drive-Thru Starbucks Gets Green Light from Trustees

Northbrook will soon have a Starbucks location near downtown, following approval of zoning relief by the Village Board on May 10.  The coffee shop with a drive-thru window will be built on the site of the former Mobil gas station on the southeast corner of Shermer and Waukegan Roads, along with two attached retail/service businesses.

Site plan shows drive-thru window configuration with a queue of up to 16 vehicles. (Click image to zoom.)

The site plan shows a two-lane entry from Waukegan Road leading to the drive-thru, with an exit on Shermer Road.  The developer, GW Northbrook 2 LLC, illustrated that the configuration allows for 16 vehicles to be stacked in the lane, and provided a traffic study showing that the proposal’s capacity exceeds the average and peak queues observed at similarly-situated stores.

Following two public hearings, the proposal received a unanimous favorable recommendation from the Plan Commission and subsequently was approved by the Trustees as part of the May 10 Consent Agenda.
