Enjoy Local Holiday Attractions & Activities

Northbrook and its surrounding communities are filled with excitement in December, with holiday activities that appeal to all ages.  These special seasonal events presented by Northbrook Chamber members will be sure to put you in a festive mood right into the new year.

Chanukah arrives early this year, with the first candles being lit on November 28.  Families can get ready with craft projects and activities at the Northbrook Court Chanukah Wonderland presented by Chabad of Northbrook on November 21-24 and 28-29.  JCC Chicago invites the public to an “8th Night” celebration in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood on December 5, featuring music from A-Z Entertainment.

Holiday light shows are guaranteed to dazzle the entire family, and the North Shore offers several options.  The Chicago Botanic Garden’s “Lightscape” display leads visitors along an illuminated walking path surrounded by sparkling lights and a magical soundtrack.  Order tickets soon as the show has historically sold out.  If you prefer to stay in your car, Let It Shine at Northbrook Court offers a drive-through experience with holiday music coordinated to the brightly-lit displays.  Ticketholders can take advantage of special offers at Northbrook Court businesses. Willow Hill Golf Course also presents an all-new Winter Magic drive-through light show filled with fun characters, light tunnels, and 50 Christmas trees.

If the kids are looking forward to a visit with Santa, there are plenty of options to make a cherished memory.  Northbrook Court has daily Santa hours through Christmas Eve, with the ability to pre-schedule photo appointments for child or pet photos. The Northbrook Park District holds breakfast and lunch parties with Santa on December 4 at the Leisure Center.  Mrs. Claus will join Santa at the North Suburban YMCA on December 4 during a Holiday Giveback program that includes a family-friendly service project. Families can say hi to Santa while choosing their Christmas tree at Reds Garden Center on December 4 or 11.  Allgauer’s on the Riverfront welcomes Santa for brunch on December 4, 11 and 18, while  The Glen Club holds its brunch with Santa on December 12

Music lovers can experience the season with live performances.  At the Northbrook Public Library, the John Erickson Trio brings a jazz twist to holiday favorites in a live show on December 16, 7:00 p.m.  Glenbrook North High School’s music department presents a holiday concert on December 14, and the Chamber’s Business After Hours at The Glen Club on December 16 will include a performance by GBN’s elite vocal ensemble Express.

If your business is hosting a holiday event, we can help spread the word.  Contact Carolyn Gessner, carolyn@northbrookchamber.org, for your event to be shared through the Chamber’s social media platforms.
