Halloween “Spooky Trail” Welcomes Business Participation

Halloween “Spooky Trail” Welcomes Business Participation

To provide a fun and safe option for Halloween in the time of COVID, the Village and Park District are co-hosting a Halloween decorating event for homeowners and businesses.  Storefront windows, porches, and front yards throughout the Village will be transformed into Spooky Trail on Halloween night with prizes of restaurant gift cards awarded in multiple categories.

The event will begin at the Northbrook Public Library, where Spooky Trail Maps and People’s Choice ballots will be distributed from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Volunteers will also accept donations of non-perishable foods and grocery gift cards for the Northfield Township Food Pantry.  Cars will then follow the trail route to the Leisure Center, where Park District staff will offer giveaways, spooky activities, and photo opportunities until 8:00 p.m.

Local “celebrity” judges will award decoration prizes in categories that include Fantasy & Family Fun, Graveyard, Spooky, Gothic, and Special Effects, with a special People’s Choice Award selected by participant ballots.

Other Halloween traditions will certainly look different this year as activities are adapted for safety.  The Village plans to publish CDC guidelines on how to reduce risk when trick-or-treating and reminds residents of existing rules for social distance, face coverings, and group gatherings.

To add your business or home to the Spooky Trail, register via the Park District website by October 19.
