Members who know of an outstanding Chamber business or volunteer, and would like to see them receive recognition, are encouraged to nominate them for a Business Award. Every year, at the Chamber’s Annual meeting, the organization honors two businesses and one deserving volunteer. The nomination process is open to any member– members can also nominate themselves.
The Northbrook Business of the Year award recognizes a local company that has utilized entrepreneurial skills to become notably successful in its industry, demonstrated exceptional customer service and is involved in the community. The business must have been in operation for more than three years. Past winners include Bell Flavors and Fragrances, AmpliVox Sound Systems, Countryside Montessori School, Lewis Floor and Home, North Suburban YMCA, Marcello’s, Korman/Lederer and Associates and Bernhard Woodwork.
The Corporate Citizen of the Year award honors a larger company that promotes a spirit of giving and community involvement. Among the past winners are A.W. Zengeler Cleaners, First Bank of Highland Park, Northbrook Court, UPS, Underwriters Laboratories, Northbrook Bank and Trust, Allstate, PotashCorp, Highland Baking, Sunset Foods and The Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel.
In addition, a member who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the Chamber and helped further the organization’s goals will be recognized as the Volunteer of the Year. Candidates must have been a member for at least two years. Winners of the volunteer award include Paul Kaufmann, Shred Spot; Sal Manso, Reebie Storage & Moving; Bob Caldwell, Hallmark Homecare; Lise Schleicher, BasketWorks; Dan Gelfond , Keepsake Family Tree Video, Jill Narens, UPS, Andy Vass and Steven Elisco, Elisco Design Architects.
