New Board Members Named for 2023

New Board Members Named for 2023

Four members have been selected to join the Chamber’s Board of Directors beginning in January 2023. Marc Cornfield, Nick Drivas, Irene Schloss de Brihuega, and Matt Settler were presented as a slate by the Board’s Nominating Committee earlier this fall to fill upcoming vacancies as current members Stephen Barr, Bob Caldwell, Hania Fuschetto, and Alli Gilley complete their terms of office.

Meet the New Board Members:

Marc Cornfield, Shred Spot: Marc is co-president of Shred Spot, a paper shredding business located in Northbrook’s Sky Harbor commercial district. The family-owned and operated business provides document destruction services for both business and residential customers. Shred Spot handles orders of any size and provides options for drop-off shredding, on-site mobile shredding, off-site shredding pick-ups, secure container rentals and paper shredding events. The business also promotes sustainability by offering secure electronics destruction and recycling, cardboard recycling, and paper recycling. Marc began his role at Shred Spot, along with his brother-in-law Danny Stookal and mother Anne Kaufmann Cornfield, in 2020. He also has professional experience in education and real estate.

Nick Drivas, Grill House: Nick’s restaurant, Grill House, has quickly become a Northbrook favorite since opening in 2017: it was named the Chamber’s Business of the Year for 2022 in recognition of its success event through the challenges of the pandemic years.  Grill  has built a loyal customer base through its family-friendly menu, multi-platform marketing, inviting indoor and outdoor spaces, and community outreach. The restaurant hosts frequent “Dine and Donate” programs, providing a generous portion of a given day’s sales to local organizations. Grill House has also been consistently involved in Chamber events including the Auction & Taste and Business After Hours.

Irene Schloss de Brihuega, Dundee Pharmacy: Irene may be fairly new to the Chamber, but she and her business have very deep roots in the Northbrook community. Dundee Pharmacy has been an institution in the Village since 1969, even surviving a fire in the late 1970s to reopen in the same location at Dunbrook Center. As a high school freshman, Irene got her first part-time job there as a cashier, and she stayed in touch with the Macklin family that owned the business as she moved through college, pharmacy school, and a career managing a pharmacy in Chicago. Purchasing the store from the Macklins in 2021 was the culmination of a professional and personal dream. An independent pharmacy, the business focuses on patient care through consultation and monitoring of prescription updates. Their compliance packaging service, ensuring that the correct medications are taken at the proper time, has led to partnerships with Glenbrook Hospital and assisted living facilities.

Matt Settler, Dasco Insurance: Matt joined Dasco as an insurance broker in 2021, bringing with him 10 years of experience in helping clients find the perfect product for their home, auto, and business insurance needs. He is equally well known in Northbrook for his leadership of the Civic Foundation’s Northbrook Days festival, a fundraiser that annually raises tens of thousands of dollars for local scholarships and grant programs. Dedicated to volunteerism, Matt frequently shares his expertise in event production with various non-profit organizations, including most recently the Chamber’s Auction & Taste. Matt has served for several years as a Chamber ambassador and event committee member, earning him recognition as Chamber Volunteer of the Year in 2020.

In addition to the four new directors, the Board has also approved the appointment of Amy Kahhat, First Bank Chicago, to its Executive Committee. The Committee meets as needed to address specific topics for the organization’s operation. A Board member since 2021, Amy has also been active as an event committee volunteer and a consistent participant at ribbon cutting ceremonies.  She joins other committee members Board Chair Julie Lerman, Franklin, Greenswag, Channon & Capilla; Treasurer Robyn Kole, The Dolins Group; Katie Roberts, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago; and Jason Young, Waterway Carwash.

The Chamber’s Board meets on the second Thursday of each month. Questions about the Board may be directed to Board Chair Julie Lerman or Executive Director Kathi Quinn.
