New 7-Eleven Planned for  Techny and Shermer

Plans for a 7-Eleven gas station and convenience store at the intersection of Techny and Shermer Roads recently received approval from the Northbrook Plan Commission.  Currently the site of a Marathon gas station, the proposal from GW Properties envisions a 3200 square foot, 24-hour store with six fuel pumps. The proposal will now be reviewed by the Village Trustees.

Village Receives Tax Incentive Application for  Shermer Road Industrial Building

The Village Board of Trustees heard an application from Brit Properties for a 6B Cook County tax incentive on a proposed business incubator site at 1825 Shermer Road. The Class 6b program reduces the overall property tax bill for industrial and warehouse buildings over the course of 12 years.  Special circumstances must be shown to grant the incentive to a property that has been vacant for less than two years. Trustees were mostly in support of the application, although Trustee Muriel Collison argued that the property had not been vacant long enough to merit preferential treatment. The application will be considered by other taxing bodies before the Trustees make a final recommendation to Cook County.

Village Board and Plan Commission Discuss Affordable Housing

The Board of Trustees and Plan Commission held a joint meeting on July 14 to discuss a draft Affordable Housing zoning ordinance.  Due to the complexity of the issues involved, the Trustees will continue their discussion in a Committee of the Whole meeting on July 28, with no public hearing scheduled in the immediate future.
