The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra is collecting band and orchestra instruments for underserved students in Waukegan public schools. Anyone interested in donating a new or gently used musical instrument should contact Cindy Brady at cbrady615@comcast.net or (847)501-2788 for the collection locations. Donors receive 2 free tickets to an NSO concert.

At the recent Meal Packing event Chamber President Tensley Garris and Charlie Corrigan, Sunset Foods, presented Northfield Township Supervisor Jill Brickman (l) with a ceremonial $1,000 check, as part of the Chamber and Sunset partnership to help neighbors in need at the Northfield Township Food Pantry.

Hunger Resource Network will host its only fundraising event for the year “Shine a Light on Hunger” on Thursday, October 11, 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Pinstripes, featuring cocktails, appetizers, live entertainment, dinner, and a Silent and Live Auction. Funds raised allow the organization to purchase frozen chicken to distribute to more than 100 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in the Chicago area. Maggiano’s will offer “Two Brothers IPA Beer Dinner” on Friday, Oct. 12, 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. created by Executive Chef Steven Crane, featuring four courses paired with Two Brothers Brewing beers. Cost is $50. For information, call (847)933-9572.

22nd Century Media will hold its annual Active Aging Expo at Northbrook Court on Saturday, Oct. 13, 10:00 a.m. The event will feature health screenings, exhibits and other informative displays. The first 200 attendees will receive a free tote bag.

The annual Village of Northbrook Fire Station Open House will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Fire Station 12 on Shermer Road. There will be live demonstrations of fire apparatus and equipment, a performance by the Fire Dept. Special Teams, and lots of opportunities for kids to climb on fire trucks and dress in firefighter gear. The event will be held 9:00 a.m. – noon.

Congratulations to the Northbrook Park District, along with Clarity Partners Chicago, for receiving the Government Standard of Excellence award for the District’s website from the Web Marketing Association. The competition is the premier award recognition program for web developers and advertising agencies.

Heartland Animal Shelter will hold an Art Show and Auction fundraiser on Saturday, October 13 from 4:00 to 9:00pm at Barbara’s Bookstore in The Glen Town Center. The event includes a silent auction of original artwork, an appearance by Instagram celebrity cat Chuck the Duck, live music, wine and hors d’oeuvres.
