Downtown anchor grocery store Sunset Foods is undergoing a major facelift, making changes to offer new experiences for not only grocery shopping, but also dining. Central to the remodel is the construction of a 75 seat café immediately off the main entrance in the space currently occupied by the liquor department. A beer and wine bar will replace the beer refrigeration cases, which will be relocated.
Sunset’s Northbrook Grill will serve a full breakfast menu from 7:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Hamburgers, sandwiches and other items will be available for lunch and late afternoon dining until 8 p.m. In addition to serving an impressive selection of beer and wine, Northbrook Tap will periodically offer tastings.
According to store officials, the café will offer a destination for people who want to grab a bite to eat or a quick drink, with the added convenience of being able to shop for grocery items. The design captures underutilized spaces and natural lighting, while improving traffic flow. Architects carefully created a design that reflects a neighborhood feel.
Other improvements to the store are also in the works, including a new Customer Service area located adjacent to the bar. The remodeled deli area will also feature a pizza oven. The bakery area will take on a whole new look as will the floral prep area. With an emphasis on freshness, there will be fresh juices, salad bars and a seafood soup bar. Once the first phase of construction is complete, new meat, cheese and produce cases will be installed.
Other amenities include comfortable sofa and seating along the front store window, shelving that is lowered from 80 to 60 inches for easier access, improved layout of the store and possibly another entrance into the store.
